Frame
Unframed; raw gardening weed barrier fabric remains visible on the reverse and is integral to the artwork
Created as part of the ongoing Holiday Me / PAYASOY self-portrait series.
A luminous green face floats within a white and violet enclosure against a deep blue field. Dark vertical eyes and a small orange mouth give the figure the economy of a mask, while the surrounding color forms a radiant but unstable halo.
The lower body contracts into a dark triangular shape. Suspended between portrait, apparition, flower and ceremonial object, the figure seems less situated in space than temporarily summoned from it.
Identity becomes a small group of essential signs:
eyes, mouth, color and aura.
They remain together just long enough to return the viewer’s gaze.
