Dimensions

Year
2023
Frame
Unframed; raw gardening weed barrier fabric remains visible on the reverse and is integral to the artwork
Created as part of the ongoing Holiday Me / PAYASOY self-portrait series.
The face is divided into colliding chromatic territories. Turquoise, red, pink, orange and white cross its features without resolving into conventional anatomy. One eye is enclosed within a bright oval while the other peers from beneath a dark horizontal band.
Against the black field, blue diagonals extend from the figure like limbs, supports or fragments of costume. Spiraling marks remain visible in the surrounding darkness, giving the portrait an atmosphere of restless movement.
Comic and severe, exposed and concealed, the figure refuses to be gathered into a single expression.
