Created during the N.A.M.E. Artist Residency in Brooklyn, this painting initiated Sefar Alien Melody.
Its point of departure is the Great God of Sefar, the monumental Round Head figure painted thousands of years ago at Tassili n’Ajjer in the Algerian Sahara. Here, that remote and enigmatic figure acquires another identity: Salvador Salavarrieta, planting seeds in the desert.
The transformation establishes the logic from which the series grows. An ancient image whose original meaning can no longer be recovered becomes capable of generating another image, another name, another action.
Against a restless field of horizontal marks, Salvador rises with an elongated body while small seedlike forms gather around him.
Something has been planted.
